Cup Competitions
Another opportunity to claim fantasy sports glory!
Introduced in 2025, cup competitions give coaches an additional way to compete and enjoy fantasy sports, while also fostering healthy community rivalries throughout the season. These competitions are currently operated off-platform, meaning no in-app cup interface exists yet. However, every cup competition is always played using a coach’s on platform Classic Squad and the scores it earns in that regular season competition.
This means coaches continue to compete in the Classic competition as usual each week, and their Classic scores are automatically used to determine their Cup performance.
The only exception is the Rookie Cup, which is based on Starter squads and may be limited to first-time coaches only.
All communication for cup competitions, including announcements, fixtures, results, and rewards, is delivered via email and the official GameDay Squad Discord. Make sure to keep an eye on both during the season to stay updated and to claim any earned rewards.
Sports and their cups from 2026 are as follows:

Cup Competitions Overview
Learn more about our two different cup competitions and the unique features that distinguish them.
The Classic Cup
Only exists in sports that have two cup competitions within the season.
Hosted near the start of the season.
A complete single-elimination, head-to-head knockout competition where the draw is randomised after every round and one loss means elimination.
The GDS Cup
Hosted towards the end of the season when a sport has two cups, or mid-season when the GDS Cup is the sport’s only cup competition.
Begins with seeded group stages, based on each coach’s performance in the Classic Competition up to the designated cut-off round.
Coaches who advance from the group stages are re-seeded before entering the knockout stage.
The knockout bracket is pre-determined, meaning the path to the final is known as soon as group stages conclude.
