Emergency Style Scoring System

From the 2026 season, GameDay Squad is introducing a new emergency style scoring system designed to protect coaches from the most frustrating parts of fantasy sport. Late outs, early injuries, or an in game HIA can no longer completely ruin your round.

This is not a traditional emergency system where you must nominate specific backup players. Instead, it is an automatic scoring safeguard that works in the background to reduce the impact of a single poor or zero score.

How the system works

Each round, you will still select a full squad of 18 on field players as normal.

When the round is completed, your total score will be calculated using the highest 17 scores from those 18 players.

The lowest scoring player from your squad for that round will automatically be removed before your final round score is confirmed.

This means:

  • You do not need to nominate an emergency player

  • You are protected if one player scores poorly due to a late out, early injury, or HIA

  • Simply selecting a full squad is all that is required

The system is fully automatic and applies to every competition.

Why this system exists

Fantasy rounds can be heavily impacted by events that are outside a coach’s control, particularly late team changes or early injuries. This system is designed to reduce the damage caused by those moments, without adding extra complexity or decision making.

It provides peace of mind without changing how you build or select your squad.

What happens if you have multiple zero scores

While this system significantly reduces the impact of late outs and injuries, it cannot cover every scenario.

If more than one player in your squad scores 0 for the round:

  • Only one score of 0 will be removed

  • Any additional 0 scores will still count toward your final round score

This ensures the system remains fair and does not completely eliminate the importance of squad depth and planning.

Key things to remember

  • Only one score is removed each round

  • The removed score is always the lowest score

  • You do not choose which player is removed

  • Filling out your full squad is essential to receive the benefit

  • The system helps reduce risk but does not remove it entirely

This emergency style scoring system is designed to protect coaches from bad luck, not poor planning, and should lead to a more enjoyable and competitive experience across the 2026 season.
